I just learned that basil repels flying insects. Time to buy some wrought iron window boxes for my rowhome for next spring.
What every man needs to own…
If I am not mistaken…. Red Wings 1905, L.L. Bean Blucher, Clarks Dessert Boot, Quoddy Chukka, another pair of Red Wings, some leather soled chukka boots, Bean Boots and a sturdy tote.
Noted.
I’m realizing that I have a lot of work to do in the footwear department.
I spent last winter trudging though the Philadelphia snowy streets in my Sketchers. Never again. This year, I’m preparing for winter early with these options:
The Allen Edmonds Bayfield. it’s not the most attractive boot for its high retail price. And it doesn’t age well. Search eBay for a used pair and see what I mean.
Grenson’s “Fred”. Leave it to a British bookmaker to provide what I would expect from Allen Edmonds. Tasteful bragging on a wingtip. But with a leather lining, I’m not sure they’re suitable for winter.
The “Bean Boot” from L.L. Bean. The front-runner is a proven commodity, and it’s affordable. Valet has a blog post on keeping them looking sharp throughout the winter months. Unless I find something between now and October that blows me away, I’ll be buying these.
As The Gentleman’s Corner points out:
So where do you get one? If you can afford it, go to a tailor. After all, as you are only getting a jacket, the price will be about a third less than a suit. At Graham Browne you’d be talking around £600.
If you can’t afford a tailor, Ralph Lauren is the default choice.
